  13. Several weeks ago I was struck with an urge to write an introductory
  14. book on Icon.  I've been involved with Icon for a number of years and I'm
  15. of course familiar with the Griswolds' book.  I think that book is good but
  16. I've come to believe that another Icon book would be of use to the
  17. programming community.

  19. The focus I have in mind for an Icon book is to be more tutorial and less
  20. encyclopedic than the Griswolds' book.  I think Icon is a very clean
  21. language, but it has many important concepts that I think could stand to be
  22. explored in more detail than is present in the Griswolds' book.

  24. In addition to a more tutorial focus I think another book would have the
  25. simple benefit of offering another perspective on the language and how to
  26. effectively use it.  Also, many idioms have emerged since the Griswolds'
  27. book was published and I'd like to cover some of them.

  29. I wondered if my urge to write a book on Icon might subside, but I've
  30. found myself to be gaining enthusiasm as time passes.  I'm writing this
  31. note to probe the on-line Icon community to see what interest there might
  32. be in another introductory book on Icon. What do you think?  Might
  33. another book be of possible use?
